when you have finished the sculpting, the model is ready to be subdived. this will give you a very smooth surface with nice organic shapes. the advantage of the subd tool is that you can control the subd size and adjust the edge length. with the option to switch between regular and progressive subd, you can create a model with more or less edges. in this case i created the model with only one subd level. the tool was easy to use and in combination with the subdivide smooth tool i was able to create a very nice model in sketchup.

now, to create the shadows, you need to have a surface that can be seen by the lights. you can use the default surface of sketchup and increase the size of it or you can create a new one and duplicate it.
