For anyone who chooses not to subscribe to the Creative Cloud, photoshop and Lightroom alone are powerful enough to be the foundation of any photography workflow. There are things that I miss about the more basic versions of Photoshop, Lightroom, and the rest of the software included in Creative Cloud, but nothing essential. It has taken me a long time to warm up to the subscription model of the Creative Cloud. As I’ve said earlier, I would prefer to be able to buy tools that never changed. As far as Photoshop is concerned, you are better off to pay $20 for an Adobe product instead of $240 for the subscription. The files are, for the most part, the same size. With Lightroom, you can still get into your photo library from your imported photos. Perhaps more importantly, it is not locked in. You can still use the Creative Cloud application on a PC – you just can’t copy or move your files to a different computer. So again, you are paying for the multi-access feature of the service along with the Photoshop toolset. I would rather use the application on any computer I own that was not upgraded or has not been updated to the end of the subscription. A subscription is all well and good in theory, but once some of the most important tools are too outdated, it is not an ideal method. If you are one of the few Photoshop users out there, you may find that this book does some more or less subtle tricks and shortcuts that you are likely to need.

Photoshop’s crop tool is a classic among graphic designers who need to draw the human eye to the area of the photo in which the artist is interested. Using the freehand tool, people draw any shape they want around a photo’s subject, without objects getting cut off by the selection and without interfering with the original background. Then, by exploring the edges of the selection, people can erase background objects and clean up photos.
Using a complex layer mask, professionals can add effects over a duplicate of a layer and show modifications only in parts of photos. For example, you could hide street signs, people or buildings. Not only is it easier to see results, but you can create a new layer mask for each effect you are applying.
A freeform, semi-destructive, non-destructive or channel-based mask can be used as a filter to alter a part of a photo. This layer of pixels determines how the image looks, whether by adding effects like distortion and distorting colors, or simply hiding certain parts of the image such as the background. This can result in a photo that has a more interesting edge.
Layer Masks, such as those between a layer and a photo layer, can be nested or combined like multiple operation layers. If one is removed or changed, the erased area will not be re-rendered. If you want to remove a pixel in the mask, you must first reconfigure a mask to remove that area. And any mask can be used as a mask for any layer type.

The new CS5 includes a new interface, which can be used for a quick overview of most of the new features that are available in the product. With an intuitive and simplified interface, Photoshop is more relevant and accessible than ever. There are new functional relationships in the interface. For example, the Layers panel now displays information about the CropClipping, Contents, and current Mask, including any erasures that occur when you edit the elements of the mask. A feature that you can enable to in an image is the live lasso selection. The live lasso selector allows you to select a final area or highlight with a direct selection. In Adobe Photoshop you can quickly select an area or rectangle by using a simple click to select a new outline or area. The new area will then be highlighted in color. Simply hit the space bar if you want to erase the highlighted area.
So with the latest update, Adobe have given us the horizontal and vertical object selection tools. There can be many things you can do with the new selection tools. You can use them to change the color of a single object, or to scale the object. Use the vertical tool horizontally by holding it down and dragging. This is handy when you are creating a pattern that you can repeat in a drawing or just on a canvas. And to update previous selections, simply press the shift key when doing a pattern or object selection.
